EVS volunteers who works for a youth center in Velenje organized an International Food Event on last Saturday. The idea was inviting all EVS volunteers around Slovenia to cook traditional food from their countries. So, there were EVS from Hungary, Germany, Spain, France, Russia, Italy and from Indonesia.
So we were driven to Velenje on Friday afternoon that took around 2 hours passing beautiful natures on the way. We cooked the night before as we need to bring the food the next morning to the city center to be tasted by people in Velenje. We cooked Nasi Goreng (fried rice with grounded chicken and vegetables) with 2 versions, spicy and the mild one. I just want to see if Slovenian like spicy food or not. Then I also made Pecel, it’s made of boiled vegetables mixed with peanut sauce. This is very traditional Indonesian food.
So, at 9 o’clock the next morning we went to city center and bring our foods. Every country has its own food stand to showcase the food. At first, no body came to our food stand. I thought, it was too early for them to eat rice, but then our food finished within 2 hours. Yay!
It was a great experience for us to be involved in this event. Especially to know that Slovenians like Indonesian food and some of them also like spicy food. It’s also great to taste other foods from other countries and meet other EVS in Slovenia.
